Zenith Aircraft Co.

Zenith Aircraft is one of America's leading kit suppliers featuring well proven models from legendary designer, Chris Heintz. Centrally based in Mexico, Missouri, Zenith offers kit aircraft for several popular models.

Few companies in light aircraft manufacturing have the experience, time in field, or intensely loyal customer following possessed by Zenith Aircraft. This company is in the exclusive business of designing, developing, and manufacturing kit aircraft. The independent, privately-owned company was formed in 1992 in Mexico, Missouri, centrally located in the United States, and is based in a leased production facilities of more than 20,000 square feet in Missouri's centrally-located Mexico Memorial Airport.

Zenith's updated STOL CH 750 aircraft was developed as an "off-airport" short take-off and landing kit aircraft to fulfill the demanding requirements of both sport pilots and first-time builders. Designer Chris Heintz combined the features and advantages of a "real" airplane with the short-field capabilities of "ultralight" aircraft. The aircraft features fixed leading-edge slats for high lift, full-span flaperons (both ailerons and flaps), an all-flying rudder, and durable all-metal construction. Zenith continues to offer the CH 701 as well as the newer CH 750, which features a much roomier interior sure to please many American buyers.

The ZODIAC CH 650 is a second-generation Light-Sport Aircraft, developed specifically for Sport Pilots. It is a popular model in the Zodiac line of aircraft that has seen great poularity since it was introduced in 1984. More than 1,000 examples are flying in many countries. The upgraded CH 650 model offers new and updated features including modern new styling with a larger cabin area. Zenith helps its buyers use the engine of their choice having evaluated several worthy selections. This kind of support brings customers back to Zenith again and again and propels new buyers to the company.

  Zenith Aircraft Line -- CH-701, CH-750, CH-650
We talked with Roger Dubbert about the whole line of Zenith aircraft, including the CH-701 STOL in kit form, the larger CH-750 in SLSA or kit, and the low wing CH-650. But we also looked at the UL engine that the Zenith folks fitted to their CH-650 design. See more about the engine HERE but listento Roger describe how Zenith regards this new entry.

  Zenith Aircraft -- CH-750 Cruzer
When you think a company has wrung all it could from a design, think again and then once more. First came the CH-701 STOL, which acquired the nickname "Sky Jeep" for its great off-runway capabilities and short take off. Zenith improved that with the CH-750 that featured a wider cockpit among other changes. At Sun 'n Fun 2013 Zenith unveiled the Cruzer, a non-STOL version of the same airplane now offering faster cruising. We spoke with expert factory pilot Roger Dubbert about the newest variation on this successful theme.

  Zenith -- STOL CH 750
Some have called this design the Jeep of the sky and one flight demonstration will tell you why. An examination shows the leading edge slats and an overall design intended for the shortest possible takeoff and landing (called STOL) and the second generation STOL CH 750 can provide that capability all day long. A well established design from a longtime supplier, about a kit a day leaves Mexico, Missouri including the company's low wing Zodiac CH 650 design.
  $8.95 Zenith CH 701 (02/07)
"Zenith's CH 701 Kit is Sport Pilot-Ready" by Dan Johnson. Published in Light Sport and Ultralight Flying, February, 2007.

Pilot Report begins: Every Light Sport & Ultralight Flying magazine reader has probably heard of off-road vehicles. How about an "off-airport" flying machine? You may not have used the term but you probably know one of the candidates: Zenith Aircraft's highly functional CH 701. No one calls the CH 701 the most handsome aircraft in the fleet. That title may be better reserved for sleek carbon fiber jobs. But as a practical aircraft appealing to ultralight enthusiasts, the Chris Heintz design with a 20-year history is

"Canada's Sky Jeep" by Dan Johnson. Published in Experimenter Magazine, January, 2004.

Pilot Report begins: Pilots will go to great lengths to fly airplanes they like. I went to the Czech Republic to fly the CH 701. That' s a long way, and I did like the airplane. The experience tells a story of light-sport aircraft development that may become increasingly common. Like most light plane pilots, I've long been familiar with the designs of Swiss-born engineer Chris Heintz. His many aircraft models have put some 2,000 builders in the air. The low-wing, Piper Cherokee-like CH 601 is far and away the most popular

"Budget Builds (Low Cost Homebuilts)" by Dan Johnson. Published in Kitplanes Magazine, June, 2005.

Pilot Report begins: Yes! You can build and fly a "real" airplane for the cost of a new SUV. Contrary to popular opinion, airplanes don't have to be outrageously expensive-at least not all of them. The Sport Pilot/Light-Sport Aircraft initiative is one program that promises to lower the cost of ready-to-fly aircraft. But many of these Special LSAs and Experimental LSAs will be priced well more than $40,000 and can run upwards of $85,000. One way to get airborne for less than $40K is to choose an ultralight, powered parachute
