Triton America

Triton America started with a familiar-looking LSA model and significantly improved it, making it stronger while preserving the well-regarded flight characteristics. Welcome to a newcomer with lots of experience and their new Skytrek.

Skytrek is powered by the fuel-injected 100 horsepower Rotax 912iS swinging a DUC Flash three-blade propeller. Triton prefers the Rotax engine for its safety, for the reliability assured by electronic ignition and fuel injection systems because they eliminate carburetors, a common source of engine stoppage.

With its 2,000-hour TBO (Time Before Overhaul) the Rotax 912iS can use premium auto gas. Pilots can monitor the engine using the standard 10-inch Dynon SkyView instrument.

As Thomas Hsueh ("shay") altered many aspects of an older design Skytrek emulates, he developed a steerable nose wheel that improves on the castoring version on the older designs. This makes for more precise (and conventional) steering. The improved assembly disengages after liftoff to keep the nosewheel and its wheel fairing straight, reducing drag.

Review all the Skytrek specifications here.

Skytrek is ruggedly built and engineered to exceed the structural strength and safety requirements of ASTM standards. Itís a purpose-built workhorse, durable, reliable, economical to operate and reasonably priced. Skytrek is aimed at and well suited for use by flight schools.

Tritonís main vision into airplane manufacturing is to establish general aviation in China and help revive general aviation in the United States by providing affordable, well engineered, and solid built SLSA aircraft that meets the demands of flight schools.

Triton America and its related companies are the operated by Thomas Hsueh whose resume lists 60-plus years of experience in yacht building, telecommunications, aeronautical engineering. Beside improving a popular low wing design, Thomas Hseuh also acquired the distinctive Adam Aircraft designs with plans to move forward with them as well. Adam designed and certified a twin-engine, twin-boom, 6-seat, pressurized all-carbon-composite FAR 23 aircraft.

Triton America -- Skytrek (pilot report) 2016
SkyTrek is a new design from Thomas Hsueh, a longtime aeronautical engineer with impressive credentials (he is also now the owner of the Adam Aircraft twin engine, six-seater). Thomas applied his extensive background to an airplane you may think you recognize but he made numerous improvements to it, among them a steerable nosewheel (the others are castoring) and beefing the structure for flight school use. If you've loved this design shape but wanted improvements, this might be your bird. (Run time: about 14 minutes)
